Get Involved
Every request for consultation involves the Gespe’gewa’gi people. Some requests may relate to almost everyone living on our territory, while others may affect only some members.
How you can help us
Our goal is to have community feedback on files. Our citizens can:
- help us decide the significance ~ the “weight” ~ of the proposed development to our people,
- use their collective memory to tell us if similar requests for projects have been suggested or completed in the past and the outcomes of these,
- help us gather community-based information, including traditional history, to include in our response,
- identify community and external experts who can join our team as needed to provide specific expertise.
Some ways of gathering information from our citizens
- community meetings or “town hall” type gatherings during which our Gespe’gewa’gi Mi’gmaq community members provide input regarding the project being proposed,
- focus groups representing selected, specific MM community members (examples: Elders, businesspersons, fishers, forestry workers) with expertise and/or special interest in the project,
- selection of people to go on a visit to the proposed site of the development and then give us comments,
- interviews with MM community members,
- electronic surveys or questionnaires offered to MM community members, probably through e-mail and/or on our website,
- paper-based surveys or questionnaires sent to MM community members.
With community input, we can ensure that everyone’s voice is heard and everyone’s opinions are respected.
