Chastity Mitchell

Meet Chastity, Interim Executive Director of MMS, a Mi’gmaq Rights based organization. She joined the team of the Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Secretariat in early 2001 and held various positions in her 20 year career.  She’s been an instrumental part in carrying out the strategic work of the MMS. She oversees the implementation of the strategic objectives and direction provided by the Mi’gmawei Mawio’mi Leadership.  While overseeing the operations of the MMS, Chastity supports MMS communities’ priorities by supporting nation to government relationships that advance and protect the rights of L’nu, while promoting the imbalances at the front.

“I received opportunities based on my experiences, passion, my purpose of what I could do instead of what I’ve already done” on her career pivots. She defines the work of MMS “unique in the sense that results are generational”, it’s always about the cause and to achieve results starts with reconciliation of our rights, our story, our history.

She is a proud Mi’gmaq of the unceded territory of Gespe’gewa’gi (Listuguj, Qc).

On her time off, she enjoys the outdoors while juggling a work-life balance.
